November 2011 – Weekend Mystery
November Weekend Mystery, 2011 November 4th – 6th
Dancing In The Wind
This is a 48” x 64” quilt before borders
This quilt is made from 2 1/2” strips
Fabric Requirements:
2 1/2 yards light
Cut 30 strips 2 1/2” wide by width of fabric
Use 18 strips to cut 288 squares ( 21/2” x 2 1/2” )
2 3/4 yards dark or 1 jellyroll
Cut 36 strips 2 1/2” wide by width of fabric
Use 36strips to cut 288 rectangles 2 1/2” x 4 1/2”
Note: You can lay out and cut multiple strips at one time, just make sure you have a sharp blade and hold the ruler steady. Lay the strips on your cutting board so they are parallel with the lines on the board, and lay our as many as you are comfortable cutting at one time. You can leave your strips folded for even more efficiency. Always cut from the open end so you can use the folded end if necessary.
Border fabric may be purchased now or after you finish piecing the top. You will need 2 yards to make an 8 – 10” border. You should cut from the length to stabilize the edge of your quilt. If you want to miter your border you will need 2 1/2 yards.
Make sure you bring all of your extra fabric to the getaway with you.
